Minnesota is the longest-lasting certification in the country — approval covers you for three years, not one, and the state charges nothing to enroll. There's no physical card; your approved record in the Medical Cannabis Registry is your access. Registered patients also skip both the 15% cannabis tax and state sales tax, which is where the real money is.

How to get your card
- Book a telehealth visit with a Minnesota practitioner registered to certify — physicians, physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses all qualify.
- If appropriate, they file your certification and the state emails you an enrollment link.
- Use that link to enroll in the Medical Cannabis Registry — don't sit on it, the link expires.
- Once approved, complete the patient self-evaluation in your Registry account before your first purchase, then shop at any Minnesota medical dispensary.
Qualifying conditions (19)
Minnesota patients may qualify with any of the following. A state-approved physician makes the final call during your evaluation.
- Alzheimer's disease
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
- Autism spectrum disorder
- Age-related macular degeneration
- Cancer, where it causes severe pain, nausea or wasting
- Chronic pain
- Chronic vocal or motor tic disorder, including Tourette syndrome
- Glaucoma
- HIV/AIDS
- Inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn's disease
- Intractable pain
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder
- Obstructive sleep apnea
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
- Seizures, including epilepsy
- Severe and persistent muscle spasms, including multiple sclerosis
- Sickle cell disease
- Terminal illness with a life expectancy under one year
